GMF news - World Trade Fair Guide. Turin, November 25, 2020 – On December 1 and 2, CMM (Connected mobile Machines & Mobility) will provide a virtual stage for the latest information and inspiration on the various components and communications systems essential to the development and connectivity of mobile machines and vehicles, with a high-powered program of more than 60 presentations and panels. Due to the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic and the associated restrictions, this international conference/exhibition will be held in purely digital form. Participation is free of charge, with mandatory registration.
The topics of the individual sessions range from automation and production control, safety/security and artificial intelligence to video surveillance and embedded systems.
The sessions will start on the morning of Tuesday, 1 December, with three keynotes on the current status of 5G – from the political framework to the latest technology releases. The State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics (BMWi), Elisabeth Winkelmeier-Becker, will speak on "5G as a Growth and Innovations Engine for the Economy". Sebastiano di Filippo, Senior Director of Business Development IOT at Qualcomm Europe, will explain how heterogeneous computing increases the autonomy of mobile robotics. Sander Rotmensen, Director of Industrial Wireless Communication at Siemens, will demonstrate how "industrial 5G" can enable mobile machines and promote greater flexibility in industry, thus paving the way for the next stage of digital transformation.
Unmanned systems will be among the hottest topics at CMM. The presentations organized by the CURPAS association will highlight the developer's vantage point and examine the current state of research needs – beginning with unmanned aviation, unmanned ground-based vehicles and unmanned systems on water. Over the various sessions, practical examples will be shown and the technical requirements explained, including include sensor technology, data management and mission planning.
Other topics include drive solutions for autonomous vehicles in the automotive sector and OEM sessions organized by the VDMA, showing how mechanical engineering components can be used in other mobile systems. The content includes mobile peer-to-peer communication in the factory of the future, 5G for mobile robotics, as well as semantic mapping and navigation.
Autonomous and intermodal traffic systems as well as networked traffic systems in vehicle design form the content of another CMM session. One of the speakers will be Thomas S. Enge, CFO of SMEV AG (Smart Mobility Evolution), who will talk about the patented technology that enables traffic control centers to accelerate the operations of all rescue services by up to 50 percent through networked traffic light control. At the same time, individual traffic receives information to form rescue lanes leave the route. The system is already configured for the use of autonomous vehicles.
The session entitled "OPC UA for Mobile Machines" will provide an introduction to this industrial, platform-independent communications standard, sketching out the main stakeholders in standardization and providing the very latest look at this technology and its possible uses in mobile machines of the future.
The second day of CMM, 2 December, will kick off in the morning with a keynote speech by Dr. Sigrid Brell-Cokcan, Director of the Chair of Individualized Production at RWTH Aachen University. Brell-Cokcan is active in researching new communication technologies and automation for material and building production. At the reference construction site of the RWTH Aachen University, a first living lab for material and building construction and the Internet of Construction (IoC) is being tested in cooperation with the 5G Industry Campus Europe outdoor communications network (LORA/5G). In her presentation, Brell-Cokcan will talk about "IoC – the Internet of Construction" and pop the question on where the focus needs to be in the digitalization of design: on communications, on the data or on more intelligent machines?
Another keynote speaker on the second day of the event will be Ewald Kuk, Vice President of Product Management Industrial Communication and Identification at Siemens. According to Kuk, Germany has an opportunity to shape the 5G mobile communications standard, at least in industrial applications. "Many countries, especially in Europe, envy us for our industrial frequency," emphasizes Kuk. "As an industrial location, Germany is on the right track concerning industrial frequency at a reasonable price, together with economic stimulus programs for 5G expansion as part of the process of digital transformation. The decisive factor is that the appropriate infrastructures are now in the process of being provided."
