Connecting machines: CMM shows the way. Conference/exhibition highlights connectivity of mobile devices. Successor event to 5G CMM Expo to launch this December in Hannover. CMM - Connected mobile Machines & Mobility (1-2 December 2020)

GMF news - World Trade Fair Guide. Turin, August 13, 2020 – How can machines communicate quickly and securely with each other? What kind of infrastructure is required to create a fully connected ship? And how can we take advantage of augmented reality in agriculture? On 1 and 2 December 2020, CMM (Connected mobile Machines & Mobility) will provide the answers to these and many other questions at the Convention Center on the Hannover Exhibition Grounds. The international conference/exhibition will deliver information on the kind of components and communications systems needed to develop mobile machines and vehicles.

"We're poised at the dawn of a new era of mobile machines and autonomous vehicles," explains Dr. Andreas Gruchow, member of the Deutsche Messe Managing Board. "Ever more powerful networks, increasing speeds and shorter latency periods offer boundless opportunities, including the creation of completely new business processes. At CMM the focus is on the technologies that are driving this leap into the future."

CMM 2020 is the successor event to the 5G CMM Expo, which was staged in October 2019. In some 100 presentations, panel discussions, interviews and pitches, as well as in the accompanying exhibition segment, CMM will discuss and present the technologies and services that make mobile machines and vehicles intelligent and/or autonomous. The focus is not just on wirelessly connecting them, but also on integrating them into stationary infrastructures. Topics include automation, production control, security, artificial intelligence, 5G, video surveillance and embedded systems.

CMM shows the respective challenges of different industries and presents practical examples. Other items on the agenda include legal framework conditions, data and system security, the interoperability of networks and systems and the development of new business models.

For Deutsche Messe, the organizer of CMM, the topic of connected mobility plays a prominent role. The Hannover-based exhibition company is currently constructing one of the world's biggest private 5G infrastructures, thus gradually developing its 100-hectare exhibition site (1 million square meters) into a highly innovativem multifunctional campus that will be available 365 days a year as a test site for 5G real-time use cases.

The non-commercial sponsor of CMM is the Electric Automation Association within the German Engineering Federation (VDMA). Another partner consists of the 5G-ACIA (Alliance for Connected Industries and Automation). According to Hartmut Rauen, Deputy Executive Director of VDMA, "Connecting vehicles is a highly innovative and, economically speaking, hugely important topic. The global market for mobile machines is running at 220 billion euros annually, and their innovative power is increasingly being harnessed to connecting vehicles. We have leading suppliers and users at our doorstep and our goal must be to establish CMM as the leading trade fair for the entire field of connected mobile machines and mobility. The Hannover exhibition complex offers us the ideal conditions for this, since the innovative connection of mobile machines also requires the connection of people – and CMM will serve as the gravitational center and showcase for this."

CMM is aimed at technical and corporate managers as well as developers and researchers from various sectors of industry – from automotive, aerospace, shipping and logistics, through mechanical engineering and the construction of mobile systems to agriculture, health care, retailing and utilities.

The conferences as well as the exhibition segment of CMM are planned as on-site events at the Convention Center. Due to potential restrictions, including travel restrictions, parts of the event may also be staged digitally via video transmission.
