Qantas to launch direct flights from Perth, Australia to Rome, Italy from June for European summer

Pianeta Turismi news. Turin, December 22, 2021 – Qantas has announced plans to launch a direct flight route between Australia and Rome from the middle of next year.
From June 22, 2022, the national carrier will operate the only direct service between Australia and continental Europe, flying three return Sydney-Perth-Rome flights per week to meet demand over the peak season.
The flight is expected to cut more than three hours off the current fastest travel time to Rome, using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
In a statement, Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce said strong travel demand since borders re-opened had given the airline confidence to explore new destinations.
“We’ve seen amazing demand on our direct service from Perth to London and on our new services to Delhi from Melbourne and Sydney,” he said.
“These are exciting destinations and there’s strong evidence the pandemic is making non-stop flights between Australia and the rest of the world even more desirable as we learn to live with the virus and its variants.”
Qantas will also partner with Tourism Western Australia to boost inbound tourism and promote Perth as a stopover for those travelling from the east coast.
On Wednesday morning, Premier Mark McGowan said the direct flights would be a “game-changer” for the WA economy as the state begins to safely re-engage with the world.
“These new flights, together with our Reconnect WA Plan, will help diversify our economy and help support new jobs in our tourism and hospitality sector,” he said.
“Many Western Australians have family links with Italy and it will now be easier to safely reunite after so long apart.”
Fares for the new Sydney-Perth-Rome flights go on sale Wednesday starting from $A1785 return.
The seasonal route will operate from June 22 until October 6.
Onwards from Rome, connecting flights will be available to 16 destinations across Europe including Athens, Barcelona, Frankfurt, Nice, Madrid and Paris and 15 destinations within Italy including Milan and Venice.
