REISE + CAMPING 2018 from 21st to 25th February at Messe Essen. Camping trend offers tourism new marketing opportunities Planning the halls has started, it’s still possible to register for NRW’s largest holiday trade fair

Pianeta Turismi news. Turin, September 1, 2017 – Camping holidays are booming. According to the German Office of Statistics, on German campsites alone the number of overnight stays rose between 2011 and 2016 from 24.85 million to 30.5 million - and rising. The outdated image of this kind of adventure holiday has long since changed. The camping sector is constantly capturing new target groups with offers tailored to suit all pockets and aspirations. “Spartan and uncomfortable” is a thing of the past, nowadays think “comfortable” and even “glamorous”. Tourism operators have also recognised the camping trend, and see new and profitable sales opportunities there. Destinations can be better marketed, the customer base and therefore also turnover is growing.

This includes TUI travel agencies: they are amongst the new exhibitors at Reise + Camping, which will take place from 21st to 25th February 2018 at Messe Essen. NRW’s largest holiday and leisure trade fair attracts 90,000 visitors a year to the Ruhr metropolis, bringing together the vehicle industry and tourism. In the middle of the most highly populated German state, which also boasts the most enthusiastic campers, the trade fair is an ideal platform for introducing destinations suitable for motorhomes and caravans. According to the German Camping Club, more than every fifth recreational vehicle in Germany is registered in North Rhine Westphalia. Which makes NRW the heartland for German camper vans. “Fahrrad Essen” which starts a day later, also brings cyclists to the trade fair - people who love to use their holiday for sporting activities. Camping and cycling is a popular combination.

Melanie Mertes, Regional Marketing in TUI’s agency sales, knows her facts: “Active touring with a camper van is very popular with our customers. This is why we will be exhibiting our camping offer, as well as other holidays, at Reise + Camping. And people who don’t want to drive themselves, but don’t want to miss out on the adventurous feeling of camping, choose the increasingly popular “glamping” - glamorous camping!”

With glamping rental options such as pods, shepherds’ huts and safari lodges, campsite operators are setting new standards. The experience of being close to nature is twinned with the luxury of a hotel. And you will find a correspondingly large selection at Reise + Camping.

Planning for this holiday world has already started. If you are interested, make sure of a stand soon!

Make it special and unusual

Campers are individualists and love the unusual. After its successful introduction last year, the “Special International Travel” exhibition will continue at Reise + Camping in 2018. This is also a stand-out trend. Package tours are losing popularity somewhat, and the unique adventure holiday is picking up momentum. Companies specialising in this form of holiday can take advantage of an attractive presentation platform to advise and inspire at Reise + Camping. In the holiday cinema next door, visitors can go on exciting virtual tours of the most far-flung parts of the world.

Scandinavia: Mecca for motorhomes

Exhibitors from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland present the unique World of Scandinavia. Destinations, ferry companies, campsites and travel agencies exhibit their holiday offerings. The far north of Europe is a particularly popular destination for motorhomes. The infinite spaces, distinctive wildlife and untouched landscape are ideal for discovering in a camper van.
