ISPO World Congress: Congress programme online / Industrial exhibition fully booked

GMF news - World Trade Fair Guide. Turin, August 21, 2019 – The 17th World Congress of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO), the leading event in the P&O sector in 2019, will take place from 5 to 8 October in Japan. Over 100 scientific sessions feature top-class expertise from all over the world. More than 100 international companies, including numerous market leaders in the industry, will present their products at the industry exhibition.

“It is great to see the preliminary programme ready and published. We received over 700 submissions for Symposia, Instructional Courses, Free Papers and Posters. With the help of about one hundred reviewers, the Scientific Committee selected submissions to build the programme, covering all congress topics”, Dick Plettenburg, Scientific Committee Chair of the ISPO 17th World Congress, explains. “I’m convinced that this programme has something of interest for everyone. Special highlights within the programme are the keynote lectures for which outstanding researchers were engaged. They will confront us with innovative ideas and insights. I strongly recommend everyone join the ISPO World Congress to get informed, inspired, and involved!”

Programme Draws on International Expertise

The ISPO World Congress is expected to be the most significant event in the P&O sector in Asia in the coming years. Participants from more than 100 countries from every continent, with professionals, industry decision-makers and consumers, are expected in Kobe (Japan).

ISPO brings together global expertise, both among the participants and the speakers, under the motto "Basics to Bionics". Topics range from orthotics and prosthetics to wheelchair care, geriatrics, paediatrics and rehabilitation medicine.

To kick off the congress, the Opening Ceremony will include the Knud Jansen Lecture. This year's speaker is David Constantine, one of the co-founders of the charity "Motivation". It's purpose is initiating projects to improve the quality of life for people with reduced mobility. He explains: “Without ISPO there would be a huge vacuum of knowledge, education, collaboration and progress and disabled people’s lives would not be so well served. As a co-founder of Motivation focusing on design and provision of low-cost wheelchairs in low-income countries, I have seen first-hand how important it is to have ISPO in our sector. I am therefore hugely proud and honoured to have been asked to give the lecture.” Desmond Tong, Business Development Manager of Ottobock South East Asia Co. Ltd. and affected himself will hold the IC2A Inspirational Lecture at the Opening Ceremony.

Special highlights in the programme include keynote lectures from Dr Deidre Desmond, Dr Max Ortiz Catalan and Prof. Eiichi Saitoh. Deidre Desmond: “It is a great privilege to have the opportunity to address the ISPO delegates as a keynote speaker in Kobe. The interdisciplinary nature of the Society and World Congress always makes for a really interesting and inspiring mix of presentations, workshops and exhibitions – I look forward to a diverse and dynamic programme showcasing the best research and practice developments. It is my favourite event in the conference calendar and so I am very honoured and excited to contribute as a keynote speaker in 2019.” Max Ortiz Catalan is also very honoured to have the opportunity to give a lecture. “I'm excited to talk about our latest achievements on the clinical implementation of highly integrated prosthetic limbs and the future ahead, as well as on a novel treatment for phantom limb pain which has shown positive results in patients for whom available treatments failed.”
