Economics for ecclesiastics
A guide
Edited by
Martin Schlag and Giuseppe Schlitzer
Preface by
Sr. Raffaella Petrini F.S.E.
Libreria Editrice Vaticana

Pianeta Libri news. Turin, May 15, 2025 – Economic issues pervade our everyday lives, and the Church is no exception in that regard. A clear example are the economic and financial reforms underway in the Vatican and the Roman Curia under the guidance of Pope Francis. Church leaders around the world are increasingly confronted with economic and financial challenges, often without the appropriate competences and skills.

This book is meant to serve as a guide for Church leaders, and ecclesiastics more generally, to understand the economy we live in better, as well as to provide some principles for good Church management. Chapters in the book deal with relevant economic topics and examine how Catholic social teaching can contribute to interpreting and resolving complex economic issues.

Readers will find references to the Bible and the Popes’ encyclicals throughout the book and will be inspired to delve deeper and undertake further inquiries.
