Turin, January 7, 2019 – IFEMA gets its activity underway in the Municipal Congresses Centre. The aim of the addition of this new asset to its portfolio of spaces in Madrid is to attract and organise congresses, conventions and professional, cultural and leisure events. A MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) activity in which IFEMA is a national leader, and which will now be strengthened with the addition of this new facility to its current facilities, thus opening up important opportunities to reaffirm its position as one of the main international operators.
This is how the management of IFEMA Municipal Congresses Centre begins. Housed in a unique building designed by the Architecture Studio of Ricardo Bofill, whose activities it will oversee over the next 25 years, the period established in the handover agreement by the Madrid City Council.
IFEMA'S aim with this new challenge is to boost its competitiveness and its commercial strategies, especially aimed at the international market, and to consolidate Madrid as one of the main global destinations for business tourism due to its wide range of spaces and IFEMA'S specialised and excellent managerial capacity.
Located in the Campo de las Naciones just a few metres from the Madrid Trade Fair Centre, IFEMA Palacio Municipal has different spaces ranging from auditoriums to multi-purpose rooms, which not only offer new categories of rooms, but also facilitate the holding of large-scale international events, thereby perfectly complementing the current offer of IFEMA spaces.
Among the main actions to be carried out within the investment plan drawn up by IFEMA, amounting to 10 million euros, is the technological and functional updating of this iconic site, which will see its facilities running at full capacity. Adaptation and refurbishment work, which will be undertaken without limiting the activity, with spaces already having been reserved for the coming months.
Some investments that will positively affect the competitiveness of this space, whose activity is expected to grow significantly. Thereby greatly increasing the revenues generated for Madrid, are likely to have an impact on the city that could exceed 300 million euros per year.
IFEMA Palacio Municipal has exhibition areas, auditoriums, an impressive multi-purpose room and rooms of different capacities. Its design has given it great versatility, with the technology and services necessary to absorb all the demands of the market, especially the organisation of congresses, meetings or product presentations. It has a serviceable surface area of more than 30,000 m2, divided into large exhibition areas, Auditorium A with capacity for 1,812 seats, a multi-purpose room with a gross surface area of 2,414 m2 and twenty-eight different rooms. Since it was built it has hosted international events such as a meeting between the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, European Union, NATO and UN summit meetings, and medical, pharmaceutical, professional and economic congresses.
