Europe's Leading Fair for Performance Vehicles 50th Essen Motor Show is Electric. BMW i3s and Nissan Leaf Sparkle in the Spotlight of the Performance Festival
| | GMF news - World Trade Fair Guide. Turin, November 11, 2017 – The core of the 50th Essen Motor Show at Messe Essen from December 2 to 10 (Preview Day: December 1) will be the enthusiasm for performance vehicles - irrespective of the form of the drive. Therefore, sustainably driven automobiles will also have their fixed places at the performance festival. In Hall 3, the car sharing provider eShare.one/RUHRAUTOe will present, amongst others, models from the US manufacturer Tesla. These will be supplemented by BMW i3s, BMW 225xe and BMW i8 as well as other vehicles from Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Opel, Smart, Renault and Toyota. The range on offer will also include: charging station concepts from innogy and Uniper as well as digital smart city business models.
With the i3s, BMW has provided the i3 with an additional version with which the electric car is given a sporty touch. With 184 bhp, the BMW i3s has 14 bhp more power than the i3 and is equipped with a sports suspension. The vehicle accelerates from a standing start to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds (i3: 7.3 seconds) and reaches a top speed of 160 km/h (150 km/h). According to BMW, the refinement of the drive (modified motor controller) is leading to realistic everyday ranges of around 200 kilometres. Available at a surcharge: a two-cylinder petrol engine with 38 bhp which produces electricity via a generator in order to keep the charge state of the high-volt battery constant during the journey if needed. According to BMW, the total range can be raised to as much as 330 kilometres in this way.
New Nissan Leaf with More Powerful Motor and Higher Range
At the start of the coming year, the new Nissan Leaf will be available in Germany. In comparison with its predecessor (the best-selling electric car in the world), it is equipped with a more powerful motor, has more range and drives semi-autonomously. The design of the electric car is also completely new, characterised by sharper and clearer contours. Thanks to the new 40 kWh battery, the range rises from 250 kilometres to as much as 378 kilometres (according to the NEDC) per battery charge. The new Leaf is driven by a motor with a power of 110 kW (150 bhp) and a torque of 320 Nm. One innovative feature is the e-pedal which is used for acceleration and braking. Moreover, the four-door saloon offers enough space for five people and has a boot capacity of 435 litres.
