Deutsche Messe announces positive result for financial year 2018. New events position the exhibition organizer well for 2019

GMF news - World Trade Fair Guide. Turin, June 26, 2019 – Goal achieved – that is the summary of Deutsche Messe's financial year 2018, with company revenue and net income figures reaching their respective targets. "With €310 million in revenue, we achieved a balanced result for the past exhibition year," said Dr. Jochen Köckler, chairman of the managing board at Deutsche Messe. So far in the current financial year, Deutsche Messe's performance remains in line with forecast figures: for 2019, the company projects revenues of €350 million and net income of €10 million. Köckler: "We are strengthening our existing exhibition brands in Germany and abroad as well as intensively expanding new business. We need both to ensure continued success. In the last six months, we have used innovative approaches to rapidly launch numerous new events."

Deutsche Messe's major trade shows in 2019 – DOMOTEX, HANNOVER MESSE and LIGNA – have already successfully completed their runs and a number of new events have either already taken place or will premiere in the coming months, including the micromobility expo for lightweight electric vehicles, Clean Transport for public transport cleaning solutions and TWENTY2X for digital solutions in March 2020. In addition, the 5G project encompasses the installation of 5G infrastructure at the Hannover Exhibition Center – which will enable the venue to serve as a testing ground for new 5G applications – as well as the launch of the 5G CMM Expo, which premieres in October 2019 as a conference and then expands to include an exhibition in 2020.

Deutsche Messe's overseas exhibition business remains a key growth driver, both through the expansion of its existing portfolio of non-German trade shows and the development of shows covering new themes and markets. The 47 events Deutsche Messe and its international subsidiaries organized outside Germany in 2018 generated combined revenues of around €65 million – an increase of €10 million compared to 2017. Events in Turkey, China, the USA, Canada, Australia and Mexico made a particularly strong contribution to this figure.

Another key contributor to Deutsche Messe's success has been the company's digital transformation. "We are on a clear transformation course," says Köckler. "We are integrating internal processes and a new business unit for digitalization is developing new digital products and services for exhibitors and visitors. For example, the introduction of anonymous visitor tracking at HANNOVER MESSE 2019 enabled exhibitors to analyze visitor traffic at their booths and determine which displays were of particular interest to their target audiences."
